What is so rare as a day in June? Than if ever come perfect days, When heaven tries the earth if it be in tune, and over it softly her warm ear lays.
Whether we look, or whether we listen, we hear life murmur, or see it glisten;
Every clod feels a stir of might, an instinct within it that reaches and towers,
And, grasping blindly above it for light, climbs to a soul in grass and flowers,
The flush of life may well be seen, thrilling back over hills and valleys;
The cowslip startles in meadows green, the buttercup catches the sun in its chalice,
And there’s never a leaf or a blade too mean to be some happy creature’s palace.”
From “The Vision of Sir Launfal” by James Russell Lowell (1819-1891)
Don’t you just love the days of June? I can’t squeeze enough June into my month!
Right now, the middle of May, I am planting, planting, planting. Because the new
parsonage basically had foundation plantings across the front and a tree in each
part of the front yard and that was it, Mike and I have enjoyed planting some bushes,
trees and vines. Mike gave me a pink flowering dogwood and I gave him a weeping
white cherry, for Mother’s and Father’s Day respectively. Also, I’ve planted a white
climbing rose and some clematis and perennials. Now we’re putting in vegetables.
Mike is mad for tomatoes and eats at least one every day after they ripen—until he almost turns red! As for me, I just love to plant. When I am planting, I think of myself as playing outside with God! I think so often of the scripture from John: “I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit….” John 15:5
Every home we’ve been blessed to enjoy, and ultimately to leave, we’ve intentionally made so much more beautiful than when we found it. I couldn’t begin to count the numbers of trees we’ve planted. And we all know how much trees oxygenate the air, as well as, provide shade and cooling during the hot summer months. My father taught me to love trees and I’m sure you love them, too, for every yard in Lordship has ornamental trees in color right now!
What do you love to do in June? Are you a boater, sailor, fisher, golfer, traveler, reader or beach comber? Whatever you do, CELEBRATE JUNE WITH GUSTO! For “whether we look, or whether we listen, we hear life murmur, or see it glisten!” Think of yourself as playing outside with God! Enjoy!!!
Don’t forget to mark your calendar to CELEBRATE JUNE with us, starting Saturday, June 13 at the first-ever LORDSHIP HISTORICAL TROLLEY DAY! To ride one of the two trolleys which will be touring Lordship that day, you will need to buy a ticket ($20 per family or $10 per person.) Tickets are available from Fred Biebel or Eunice Lisk from our church. Each of the three Lordship churches is selling tickets with all of the proceeds going to the church from which you buy your ticket. You then get a wristband. If you want to just enjoy what’s going on at our church, you won’t need a ticket or wristband. In order to make our church’s part a HUGE success, there are various ways you can be part of the action. See the Trolley article on the cover!
Jazz it up with us on Sunday, June 14, for it is our Annual Lordship Church Jazz Sunday! You won’t want to miss the chance to CELEBRATE JAZZ AND GOD here!
Father’s Day is Sunday, June 21, which is also the first day of summer! We’ll have fun in worship as we CELEBRATE DADS or those who are/were like dads to us.
CELEBRATE “Fun Night Out” on Saturday, June 27, at the free outdoor concert by the Bridgeport Symphony at Fairfield U. Let’s carpool and bring picnic food to share!
June 28 will be CELEBRATION SUNDAY! We will confirm Brianne Cronk, Amanda
Green and Jordan Weiss. We will also recognize our volunteers. After worship, we
will have an All-Church Picnic outdoors. The church will provide meat on the grill. We ask others to provide soda or water, chips, condiments, beans and salads. Dessert will be cake and ice cream in honor of our confirmands!
CELEBRATING LIFE IS WHAT JUNE IS ALL ABOUT! I celebrate GOD and YOU!!!
Joy in the journey we share and see you in worship,
Rev. Mary
